UNIVERSITY OF NIGERIA PHARMACY INTERVENTION FUND (UNNPIF)

The Need

The Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Nigeria Nsukka is in great distress, very big distress, arising from several years of abandonment and neglect. Laboratory instruments/equipment and reagents are lacking, basic administrative resources are not available, lecture halls and staff offices are deplorable, funds are not there as Heads and Deans almost run  their units with personal funds. In the very words of the recent Pharmacists’ Council of Nigeria (PCN) Fact-finding Team to the Faculty, ‘We have heard so much about the decay (infrastructural etc) in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, UNN. PCN was at the verge of closing down the Faculty and re-distributing her students to other nearby schools, but were told to first of all find out the exact situation.

We are here now, and what we are seeing is indeed, by far, more grievous and alarming than what we heard’.My dear cherished Alumnus, the above picture painted by the PCN Team is indeed very accurate

The Proposal

The Faculty has established a radical Intervention scheme involving all Alumni of the Faculty since inception, aimed at raising substantial amount of money in the trust of the Faculty. Under the scheme, each alumnus of the Faculty is specially requested to donate to the Faculty, an amount, monthly, for 3 consecutive months. These donations have been graded to suit various strata of the alumni and are as follows:

Grade A N50,000 and above monthly for three months

Grade BN20,000 monthly for three months

Grade CN10,000 monthly for three months

Grade DN5,000  monthly for three months.

  1. Each alumnus is requested to choose a particular category from the above and remit the corresponding amount accordingly
  2. These amounts are payable to the Faculty Account (University of Nigeria Nsukka Pharmacy Intervention Fund (UNNPIF), ECOBANK, Nsukka, Account Number: 4623006493).
  3. For ease of payment, alumni members can give standing orders to their banks to remit the chosen amount monthly from their accounts to the Intervention Fund Account.
  4. A person may chose to pay en bloc if he or she so wishes
  5. A Management Committee, headed by Rev Professor Jacob Onyechi, and made up of other prominent professors in the Faculty, has been set up to manage the funds accruing therefrom, while the Alumni would be regularly updated on the status of the Fund. Full records of all remittances would be accurately maintained.
  6. We are calling on all our alumni (1960  to date) both at home and in the diaspora, to please embrace and actualize the scheme. Effective take-off date is September 2014.
